WESTERN AUSTRALIA:

 


BATAVIA COAST
Location: Shark Bay, Western Australia

Characteristics: Also known as the Shipwreck Coast, this area of Western Australia is most famous for its European Naval History, when explorers first landed on its unforgiving shores. Now probably one of the most popular fishing and diving destinations of WA.

CORAL COAST
 
Location: Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia

Characteristics:
Most famous for its Natural Coastline, Coral Reef and Naval History (the many famous Shipwrecks), this pioneering area is also home to many pastoralists running sheep and cattle on their large properties (stations), opening up a wide variety of experiences, coastal and inland.

Attractions: Kalbarri, Coral Bay (snorkelling), Exmouth (whalesharks), Fishing, Eco/Wilderness Camping, Station Stays, Surfing and much more....

GOLDEN OUTBACK
Location: Kalgoorlie, Western Australia

Characteristics: Also known as the Goldrush
Pioneers Settlement Area, this part of WA is rich in a historical pioneering and indiginous heritage.

Attractions: Outback Highways (The Gunbarrel Highway to Uluru, The Canning Stock Route, Eyre Highway to The Nullarbor, The Great Central Road to Laverton), Wildflowers, Aboriginal Culture, Heritage Buildings, Pubs/Hostels, Gold Mining & Museum Tours, Natural Attractions (Darling Ranges) etc.
 

THE KIMBERLEYS
Location: Kununurra, Western Australia

Characteristics: First explored by
Alexander Forrest (the older brother of Sir John Forrest, WA's first premier) in 1879, Kununurra (or 'Big Water' in the local Aboriginal Language) really came into existence in the 1960s as a construction centre for the Ord River Scheme. But it was Forrest (the first white man to discover the Kimberleys) who was instrumental in the leasing of over 51 million acres (in the late 1800s), including the Durack family cattle properties (Lissadel, Argyle, Rosewood and Ivanhoe).

Attractions: Mirima National Park (2 km from Kununurra), Celebrity Tree Park (Lake Kununurra), The Gibb River Road, El Questro Station, Bushtucker tours, natural attractions (Bungle Bungles, Boab Trees) and a rich cultural/aboriginal and mining history.
 

THE NORTH-WEST
Location: "North of 26th P", Western Australia

Characteristics: Covering the Gascoyne, Pilbara and as far north as the Kimberley Regions of Western Australia, this area is most famous for its adjoining Coast (see Coral Coast) and Pastoral and Mining History.

Attractions: North-West Coastal & Great Northern Highway, Carnarvon growers' markets & banana plantations, natural attractions (Kennedy Ranges, Karijini, Purnululu National Parks), Gascoyne & Murchison Rivers, fishing, aboriginal culture & history, the Ningaloo Reef, mining (including the world's largest trains) and Broome.
